Saving a screenshot as a JPG in GIMP requires "exporting" the file and takes about 10 times as long (and 10 times as many clicks) as the same task used to in PSP. I downloaded GIMP and have been using that, but as someone else said in one of these forums, GIMP is bloated and clunky and has a really bad interface, especially for doing the simple things I want to do. I get it that I'm running a 32-bit app on a 64-bit PC, but it ran fine for 5 years, so what has changed to break it, and how do I fix it? I don't want a newer version because this version does everything I need (and quite a bit I don't need). When I double-click the icon, it will load the same error message, and when I click the Cancel button the program's gray background will appear, but it hangs and hangs and hangs, never finishes loading, and I can't even quit it except by using the Task Manager to End the task. But then Windows did another update, and since then PSP will no longer run at all. I finally figured out I could simply click Cancel in the error msg and then the program would load and run fine. Then it suddenly decided it would no longer load unless I double-clicked the desktop icon (the PSP Task Bar icon stopped working altogether) and then an error msg would pop up demanding I insert the CD, but it wouldn't recognize the CD and kept showing the error message. Prior to two Win10 updates ago, my PSP8 always worked fine.

My laptop came with Win7 Pro (I shopped for a leftover Win7 laptop because I hated Win10 from the start), and I did the free upgrade to Win10 Pro only when they announced they would stop supporting Win7.

I have installed this product on every PC I've ever owned since I got it, including my current HP (a several-yr-old 17" touchscreen laptop that has an i7 CPU with 16GB of RAM and a 1.5TB hdd with about 250GB available). It has always worked great and has always been my primary graphics tool, which I use mostly for pasting screenshots and saving them as JPGs, plus mundane things like resizing, cropping, creating collages, and flipping orientations. I have an original CD of Paint Shop Pro 8 (32 bit) that I bought several years ago. I have a completely different problem than has been discussed here. I've had trouble finding threads about such an old version of PSP so I hope no one minds if I reply to this one. Then tired it in Photoshop 5.5, surprisingly the noise is very well controlled. Then other day, while using the unsharpen mask in highly zoomed photo, I observed, PSP8 multiples the noise. Obviously, I selected the least compression ration, but that alone doesnt explain the fact. Dont have the problems you encountered, but some severe issues propped up.Įverytime, I modify the G3 superfine large jpeg in PSP8 and save it, it file size is more than doubled. Is this due to something funky with the canon EXIF specs, or is PSP The second problem is certainly easy to work around. Then resaving it again as a jpeg, losing all the exif info.Ģ) If I try to delete a file by rightclicking the thumbnail, the Resave it I get an error, and I have to end up saving it in TIF and My head against a wall due to some, um, less-than-happy glitches.ġ) About half the time when I modify a jpeg from my S400 and try to

I'm giving the PSP 8.0 trial a whirl, and while I'm very impressedīy and appreciative for some of the new features, I've been banging I think for the money its a great program. You will find some photos I edited with PSP8. I suggest you remove the program and load it again, I find that often solves any problems. I,m using Windows ME aswell - not the most stable operating system!
